Page Background

Recent trending has indicated that future land rigs will be set

up to run and build stands of tubing in order to reduce run

times. Along with the highmarket demand for a non-marking

systemon complex wells (e.g. HPHT, sour, etc.), the recent influx

of these onshore wells and the ongoing need for solutions to

facilitate operations in corrosive environments will continue to

propel future adaptive iterations of the CLS and complementary

technologies.

Halliburton

Halliburton helps its customers maximise value throughout

the lifecycle of the reservoir – from locating hydrocarbons and

managing geological data, to drilling and formation evaluation,

well construction and completion, and optimising production

throughout the life of the asset.

The DataSphere® permanent monitoring suite provides

customisedmonitoring solutions to optimise production in

real time. The systemoffers wireless transmission of power and

communication across well tubulars, using inductive coupling

technology. This enables operators to place permanent gauges

behind casing, providing access to real time pressure and

temperaturemeasurements frombehind the casing without

a penetration.

In a completedwell, the A-annulus is the area between the

production tubing and the smallest casing string. A typical well

will also have a B- and often a C-annulus between the different

casing strings. These annuli do not normally have any connection

towellbore fluids, butmaintaining pressure in them is essential to

ensuring the integrity of the casing strings. LinX systemtechnology

enablesmonitoring of these trapped annulus spaces in subseawells

to verifywell integrity, andwith that, maximisation of production

constrained by thermally induced annulus pressures.

When installed behind casing and in direct contact with

the formation, the systemallows monitoring of almost any

section of the formation along the wellbore. This reduces the

risk of out-of-zone injection, and allows monitoring of injector

connectivity between wells and communication between

reservoirs during production.

The ability to provide data in real time with the well flowing

lowers the financial threshold to obtaining data that is key to

field optimisation; otherwise, the only option is often to drill and

complete dedicatedmonitoring wells at great cost.

The system is HPHT-rated and can provide tubing and annuli

measurements all on the same downhole cable and topside

interface card.

The systemhas recently been deployed to determine

communication between injectors and non-producing formations,

where it provided decision-making data in the planning of future

wells and reservoir optimisation strategies. It was installed at

6300mmeasured depth (MD).

The systemhas also recently been deployed to determine

communication between a producing and non-producing zone

during production. The systemwas installed at 3000mMD

and provided communication from the A-annulus through to

the C-annulus.

NexTierOilfieldSolutions

NexTier Oilfield Solutions is a provider of integrated

completions, focused on accelerating production in demanding

US land basins. The company’s completion services include

coiled tubing, cementing, fracturing services, pumping services,

wireline and perforating services, wellsitemake-up and pressure

testing.

As it becomes ever more important to boost efficiency

and improve environmental performance, the company

is increasingly deploying technologies that reduce diesel

consumption and the release of carbon emissions. Among these

initiatives are: incrementally adding Tier 4 dual-fuel engines

to the current Tier 2 fleets; incorporating additives that make

diesel burnmore cleanly and with greater power output per

gallon; undertaking a digital transformation to enhance the

effectiveness of equipment monitoring, increase operational

reliability and provide increased visibility for customers; and

evaluating electric-powered and natural gas-driven pump

designs.

TheHibernate

TM

warm-start systemautomatically turns off

frac pumps between stages and enables remote group restarts

froma data van. Recently deployed over 62 days on aWest Texas

fleet, pumps equippedwith the systemreduced total engine

hours by 34%and decreased engine idling by approximately 54%,

compared to pumps in the same fleet operated using traditional

methods. On an annual basis for a full fleet, these results translate

to fuel andmaintenance savingswithin the seven-figure range.

In addition, the systemdecreases personnel exposure to heavy

machinery, improves onsite air quality and reduces noise.

To further improve efficiency and reduce operational

expenditures, it is recommended to combine wireline and

fracturing services on the same job. Across the US, integrating

these essential services in partnership with the company has

resulted in an average of 20%more stages completed per day.

NOV

National Oilwell Varco (NOV) offers intervention technologies and

a range of stimulation packages. In response to the longer laterals

required inmany shale operations, the company has focused on

helping achieve themaximum returns for customers’ wells.

The Genesis

TM

line of high-capacity coiled tubing units

helps streamline logistics, allows customers to legally carry

more pipe to the site, and can feature the newest Hydra Rig

TM

injector, the HR-6120, which was specifically designed to handle

quench-and-tempered coiled tubing.
