CARBO

The oil and gas industry is taking unprecedented steps towards

digital transformation. Data analytics, AI, machine learning and

process automation are nowcommonplace terminology. As

drilling contractors and operators alike have embraced amore

technologically engaged oil and gas landscape, newchallenges

have emerged fromthe substantial amounts of data being gathered

pre-, during and post-completion. Bringing field data to the office in

an efficient and visual manner and storing it in one location is one

such challenge.

FRACPRO.AI

, a real time frac data visualisation platform, was

developed by CARBO to process high quantities of data quickly

and allow for better insights into awell’s performance, enhancing

operational efficiencies and enabling organisations to realise the

value in their completions data. Focusing on the completions

phase of thewell, the platformreducesmanual datamanipulation,

transformation and cleansing. The technology connects to other

FRACPRO software, enabling real time online frac job data display

while centrally gathering completions data into a secure cloud

data repository. An open application programme interface (API)

enables data feeds to and fromother platforms. The platform

will continuously streamthe completions data to cloud storage

for instant and secure access available anywhere. Data related

to fracture design and execution, including downhole pressures,

depths, surfaces pressures, diagnostic fracture injection tests (DFITs)

andmany other data channels, are securely stored and instantly

accessibleminute-by-minute and stage-by-stage. Engineers or

data scientists can upload historic completion-related data from

other sources (e.g. data files, spreadsheets, flat files or any other

digital format) to it. With organised high-quality completions data

in one place, engineers and data scientists can spendmore time

analysing, thinking and realising the hidden value in their data and

significantly less timemassaging andmoving data.

The system is production ready and has been purchased

by several customers. Demo licences have also been issued to

prospective customers.

EnventureGlobal Technology

Enventure Global Technology is a provider of solid expandable

solutions for the energy industry. Solid expandable technology

can be used for multi-stage fracturing to fracture unlimited zones

or sections, and provide a large inside diameter to accommodate

larger perforating guns and flow areas as well as larger frac

volumes and rates.

Solid expandable refrac liners are amulti-zone isolation

completion solution that use solid expandable technology and

elastomer technology to enhance fracturing operations. In addition,

refrac products support any type of perforating, plug and fracturing

programme, fromconventional shaped charge perforation on coil

to pump down composite plugs for isolation. These solutions also

allow for the creation of multiple newperforation and fracture

intervals or zones to support refracturing programmes.

Expandable refrac liners have two advantages over

conventional refrac liners. First, because they can be anchored to

the base casing, they remove the need to performa cementing

job. Secondly, after expansion, they preservemost of the well’s

inner diameter (ID). Larger ID reduces pressure loss due to

friction, which in turn, allows the operator to use higher flow rates

when fracturing. For example, when a 3.5 in. liner (2.992 in. ID)

is installed and cemented within a 5.5 in. production liner, flow

rates can be limited to 40 bpm to 50 bpm (depending on the

required treatment pressure, lateral length, true vertical depth

[TVD] and type of fluid used). A 4.25 in. expandable liner will have

a post expanded ID of 4 in., which under the same conditions, can

achieve 80 bpm to 90 bpmwhilemaintaining the target treatment

pressure, which typically exceeds 10 000 psi.

With the number of refracture operations growing in recent

years, the use of expandable liners as amethod of mechanical

zonal isolation has also increased. Expandable liner companies

have completed numerous successful refracture installations in

most basins in the US.

During this growth it was learned that improvements were

needed in expansion technology – along with pre-planning

collaboration with the operator – to perform installations in

more extreme environments. In collaboration with its clients, the

company has extended the safe operating windowwith a tiered

offering of expandable liners to provide zonal isolation, ranging

fromvertical refractures to long horizontals and now into higher

temperature environments.

Frank’s International

Frank’s International offers tubular running services, tubular

fabrication, and speciality well construction and well intervention

solutions with a focus on complex and technically demanding

wells tomeet the demands of the rapidly changing oilfield. The

company has developed equipment for installing corrosion

resistant alloy (CRA) tubulars that extend the life of the well safely

and efficiently.

The collar load support system for stands of tubing

(CLS-S) is a robust non-marking tubular handling system that

accommodates a wide range of pipe sizes. The systemallows the

running of threaded and coupled stands of tubulars as well as

single joints without causing damaging dye penetrationmarks.

In doing so, it removes the potential for corrosion cracking

due to stress concentrations. Further, the risk of slip crush and

iron transfer is minimised as the systemenables the tubular to

be supported by the load face and not by penetration, thus

avoiding the slippage issues prevalent on certain alloys with

conventional inserts. In addition, there are significant time savings

to be achieved from running stands as opposed to single joints.

Casestudy

On a recent job the CLS-S was used to run 5½ in. Super 13 Chrome

completion stands on amulti-well project for a supermajor in the

North Sea. In combination with the FLUID GRIP® Tong, the CLS-S

was deployed to run the 14 600 ft high pressure high temperature

(HPHT) completion, achieving a time saving of approximately

32 hours. This systemwas chosen specifically for its non-marking

capability while running Super CRA.

The smallest version of the systemhas been designed for

the 27.5 in. rotaries that are typical to the onshoremarket.
